Contract Notes
DeAndre Hopkins signed a two year contract extension with the Arizona Cardinals on September 9, 2020. Details of the contract are courtesy of Joel Corry of CBS Sports. The extension is worth $54.5 million in new money with $42.75 million guaranteed at signing. The contract has a total vesting guarantee of $49.4 million. Hopkins' salary in 2020 and 2021 is fully guaranteed at signing, and Hopkins received a $27.5 million signing bonus. Hopkins has a $9 million option bonus due by the 10th day of the 2021 league year, for the 2024 year of the contract. Hopkins 2022 base salary is guaranteed for injury at signing, but vests to a full guarantee on the 5th day of the 2021 league year.
Hopkins has void provisions for the 2024 of the year contract if he meets specific performance statistics. Hopkins will earn the void if he hits one of four provisions. He can either be named to four straight All NFL selections, have 40 or more touchdowns, 400 receptions or 5,000 receiving yards from 2020 to 2023. If earned he can opt to void the contract 10 days prior to the start of 2024 free agency. Following the 2021 season Hopkins has 157 receptions, 1,979 yards, and 14 touchdowns. He was not named to any 1st team honors so that provision can no longer be earned.
Hopkins has a no trade clause in his contract and can not be franchise tagged after the expiration of the contract.
